O Happy Fault

One of my favorite lines from the Exsultet at the beginning of the Easter Vigil liturgy is “O happy fault, that gained for us so great a redeemer.” In light of the Resurrection we cannot just be grateful for Christ dying for our sins and the sins of the whole world. We can even be grateful (in a way) that Adam and Eve sinned because by their sin, the necessity of a savior was created. Thus, we can say that indeed the sinful fault of our parents is a happy fault because we are given Jesus in the flesh, Jesus dies for our sins, and Jesus rises from the grave all which testify to the reality of our salvation in Jesus Christ. For without the Resurrection we have no hope. So let us be joyful, thankful, and jubilant because Jesus has truly Risen and is alive!

The truth of our Catholic Faith can never be overstated because the Faith of the Church is the Faith of Christ. Through Christ, salvation comes to the Church, and through the Church salvation comes to the world. As St. John Chrysostom puts it “The Church is thy hope, the Church is thy salvation, the Church is thy refuge.” Everything that has been given to Jesus from His Father, He now gives to the Catholic Church to be poured out upon the human family.

As we begin the Easter Season, I invite you to reflect on your Lenten journey and ask yourself what would be good from your Lent to continue into the future. For Lent is not meant to simply be put aside but is meant to be a sort of training for the entirety of our lives.

In the next few weeks, we will begin utilizing the Ministry Scheduler Pro (MSP) ministry scheduling program across St. Joseph, Pillar of Families. MSP will enable those who desire to use the convenience of the app or website to do so. Through the App you can change your preferred Masses and request a sub. Though in the initial schedule we may hold off on some features until everyone is more settled. So, if you have your email on file for ministry schedules, please look out for an email in early April to ensure your preferences are correct and to mark which weekends you will be unavailable. Through this email you will also receive your username and password for MSP. MSP will also permit those who prefer not to use technology to serve in their ministry because you will still be scheduled even if you do not use the app or website. You can call the office to let us know what weekends you will not be available, and we can put that manually into the system. Thank you to our volunteers for being generous with your time.

Thank you to the Risen Conquering Savior! He suffered all for the sake of our salvation and He rose to restore us to eternal life. May our lives reflect fitting praise and thanks for so great a savior.

Peace in Christ,
Fr. Jarred Kohn
